Massage is a treatment that involves the manipulation of the soft body tissues with physical, functional, medical/therapeutic, and in some cases psychological purposes and goals. It can be structured or unstructured using pressure, tension, motion, or vibration performed manually or with mechanical aids. Target tissues may include muscles, tendons, ligaments, skin, joints, or other connective tissue, as well as lymphatic vessels, and/or organs of the gastrointestinal system. Massage can be applied with the hands, fingers, elbows, forearm, and feet. There are over eighty different massage modalities and many practitioners offer several types and may combine them in practice.
Medical research has shown that the benefits of massage include relief from pain, anxiety and depression. It can temporarily reduce blood pressure levels and heart rate. Theories offer that massage can block pain signals to the brain, release endorphins and serotonin, prevent fibrosis or scar tissue, increase the flow of lymph, and improve sleep. Beyond that, massage offers a tremendous sense of well being and relaxation.
Massage is normally done on a table and you may undress according to your comfort level. Care is always taken to provide you with the utmost privacy and you will be draped during the service.
